How the price is worked out

Each county figure is the median weekly price a full-time place cost in 2022, the latest year of the U.S. Department of Labor's National Database of Childcare Prices. A year is 52 weeks. Your daycare sets its own fee, so ask for its price list on the tour.

Some small counties have no home daycare price. Then the calculator says so and uses the state median.

Tax help with daycare costs

From tax year 2026, a dependent care account through your employer covers up to $7,500 of care a year before tax. The federal Child and Dependent Care Credit is 20% to 50% of up to $3,000 in costs for one child, or $6,000 for two or more. Families on lower incomes get the higher rate (IRS).

In Texas, a Child Care Services scholarship pays part of the bill for eligible families. Daycare cost in Texas has every Texas county.

Prices shown as "county median" are from the U.S. Department of Labor National Database of Childcare Prices (latest year available, 2022), as stated on our data sources page.
